Which one fits
Choose GridRouter if
- GridRouter routes: provider preferences and waterfalls move to the next vendor on a miss, with stop rules and retries. treg's docs say it compares providers but does not route between them or fail over.
- One input and output schema per capability, whichever vendor answers. treg relays each provider's response verbatim.
- Every call and every waterfall attempt is logged with redacted, encrypted bodies, with filters, live tail and log drains.
- A private, encrypted cache per workspace: a repeat lookup is answered from your own data and costs nothing.
Choose treg if
- You need tools outside GTM data, such as SEO, social trends, ads management or publishing. treg's catalog is far wider.
- You want treg to hold the vendor accounts: it serves eligible endpoints on its own keys, while GridRouter runs only on your keys during launch.
- You want to self-host for your own team; treg's license expressly allows it.

Questions
Does treg add a markup to vendor prices?
No. treg's pricing page says metered calls are billed at the provider's own rate with no markup, and that the promise is in its terms (checked 30 September 2026).
Is treg open source?
Its home page says "open source · AGPL", but the LICENSE file in its GitHub repository is Apache 2.0 with additional terms that restrict offering it as a hosted service. Self-hosting for your own team is allowed (checked 30 September 2026).
What does GridRouter do that treg doesn't?
It routes. A waterfall tries vendors in your order until one answers, under one schema, and every attempt is logged. Repeat lookups come from your private cache for free.
